Samarium cobalt disc magnets are composed of samarium, cobalt and iron.
These magnets are typically produced through powder metallurgy techniques, where the powdered ingredients are compacted in a magnetic field and then sintered. Samarium cobalt(Smco) magnet has a strong resistance to corrosion and oxidation resistance, can be widely used in high temperature and poor working conditions. Sm2co17 magnets are extremely strong for their small size, metallic in appearance and found in simple shapes such as rings, blocks and discs.

Samarium Cobalt disc magnets have good corrosion resistance compared to other magnet materials like neodymium iron boron (NdFeB). However, they are still susceptible to corrosion in certain environments, so appropriate coating or plating may be necessary for some application, just like coated nickel if it is necessary.
