Ferrite Block

Ferrite Block

Ferrite block magnets are permanent magnets , not rare earth magnets, it is is composed of SrO or BaO and Fe2O3., also called ceramic magnets.

Products Description

Ferrite blocks are magnetic components made from ferrite, a ceramic material composed of iron oxide (Fe₂O₃) combined with other metallic elements like manganese, zinc, or nickel. These materials are sintered to form a dense, hard, and brittle structure that exhibits excellent magnetic properties. Its normal operating temperature is between -40℃ and 250℃. Ceramic magnets are the most commonly used permanent magnet materials due to their low cost, easy to produce, excellent corrosion and demagnetization resistance properties. It can be produced either isotropic or anisotropic.  Their color are charcoal gray and usually appear in the forms of discs, rings, blocks, cylinders, and sometimes arcs or segments for motors.

Common Sizes and Shapes

Ferrite magnets are manufactured in various shapes, with ferrite block magnets being one of the most versatile forms:

Sizes range from small (10mm x 5mm x 2mm) to large industrial blocks exceeding 150mm in length.

Customizable dimensions are available based on specific application requirements.

Typical grades include C1-C8 (US) or Y30, Y35 (China/Europe), offering varied magnetic strength.

This magnetic block, also known as "rectangular magnet", is made of ferrite, which grants a reliable performance and a very competitive price when compared with Neodymium.

Ferrite magnets are made of an iron oxide powder and a blend of other metals. Their cheap price, together with their high heat and corrosion resistance, makes them perfect in many fields and applications, such as industrial equipment, gadgets, bricolage, automotive, holders, fixtures, sensors and many more!

Key Features

High Magnetic Permeability: Ferrite blocks have a high magnetic permeability, making them effective in concentrating magnetic fields.

Low Electrical Conductivity: Unlike metals, ferrites are poor conductors of electricity, which minimizes eddy current losses.

High Resistivity: This property makes ferrite blocks ideal for high-frequency applications.

Temperature Stability: Ferrite blocks maintain their magnetic properties over a wide temperature range.

Corrosion Resistance: Being ceramic, ferrite blocks are resistant to corrosion, enhancing their durability.

Please note: Ferrite magnets are fragile and should be handled with care. Although they have a high coercitivity value (which means they do not demagnetize easily), you should avoid placing them in direct contact with more powerful magnets.

advantages of ferrite magnets:

Cost-Effective: Ferrite magnets are relatively inexpensive to produce compared to other types of magnets, making them a cost-effective option for many applications.

Corrosion Resistant: Ferrite magnets are highly resistant to corrosion, which makes them suitable for use in harsh environments without the need for additional protective coatings.

High Stability: These magnets have a high resistance to demagnetization and maintain their magnetic properties over a wide range of temperatures, making them stable and reliable.

Wide Availability: Ferrite magnets are widely available and can be easily manufactured in various shapes and sizes to meet specific requirements.

High Magnetic Permeability: They have high magnetic permeability, which allows them to conduct magnetic fields efficiently, making them ideal for applications like transformers and inductors.

Low Weight: Ferrite magnets are lighter than other types of magnets, such as rare-earth magnets, which can be advantageous in applications where weight is a concern.

Electrical Insulation: They are electrically insulating, which prevents eddy currents and associated energy losses in AC magnetic applications.

Environmental Friendliness: Ferrite magnets are environmentally friendly as they are made from abundant raw materials and are non-toxic.

Thermal Stability: These magnets can operate effectively over a wide temperature range, usually from -40°C to 250°C, without significant loss of magnetic properties.

Mechanical Strength: Ferrite magnets possess good mechanical strength and can withstand mechanical stresses better than some other magnet types.

Guidelines for Using Ferrite Block Magnets

For optimal performance and longevity:

Handle with Care: Avoid dropping or striking ferrite blocks to prevent breakage.

Consider Application Needs: If high magnetic strength is critical, evaluate neodymium options.

Operating Environment: Ensure the environment does not exceed the maximum temperature rating.

Custom Manufacturing: Partner with experienced manufacturers for customized sizes or magnetization directions.

FAQ

What are the typical applications of ferrite block magnets?

Ferrite block magnets are widely used in various industries for applications such as:

Loudspeakers

DC motors

Magnetic separation systems

Magnetic assemblies

Educational tools

Magnetic sweepers and filters

Are ferrite block magnets corrosion-resistant?

Yes, ferrite magnets are highly resistant to corrosion. They can be used in environments where humidity or exposure to chemicals would typically cause other magnets to degrade. This is one of their key advantages over rare-earth magnets, which often require protective coatings.
